Absolutely. In fact, it’s usually one of the first things I ask for.
Pinterest can be incredibly helpful when you’re planning a wedding. Not because I’m looking to recreate every image you’ve saved, but because it gives me a better understanding of what you’re naturally drawn to.
Sometimes couples arrive with a board full of inspiration. Other times they’ve saved a handful of images and aren’t really sure what they like yet. Both are completely fine.
What I find interesting is that most Pinterest boards start telling a story long before the flowers do.
When I’m looking through your inspiration, I’m not just looking at bouquets. I’m looking at the venues you’ve saved, the colour palettes, the table settings, the fashion and the overall feeling. Quite often there are themes appearing throughout the board that you might not even realise are there.
Maybe you’re consistently drawn to soft, relaxed florals. Maybe everything feels modern and architectural. Maybe there’s colour everywhere.
That’s the kind of information that helps me.
Some of my favourite weddings have started with a Pinterest board. Brides often come across beautiful ideas, interesting colour combinations or creative ways to use flowers that I might not have considered myself. Inspiration is a wonderful thing, and I never want couples to feel like they shouldn’t bring it along.
At the same time, it’s important to remember that Pinterest is exactly that – inspiration.
Many of the images we save come from different countries, different seasons and very different budgets. Some are styled shoots rather than real weddings. Others feature flowers that simply aren’t available in New Zealand. But, that doesn’t mean we can’t achieve a similar look or feeling.
Rather than focusing on recreating one particular image, I like to understand what it is about that image you love. Is it the colour palette? The shape of the flowers? The simplicity? The way the room feels?
Once we understand that, we can start creating something that feels right for your wedding, your venue and your season. And sometimes that’s even better than the original inspiration.
If you’ve got a Pinterest board, send it through. I’d love to see it. And if you don’t have one, that’s perfectly okay too.
Some couples come to me with fifty saved images. Others come with a venue, a date and a feeling they’d like to create.
Both are equally good places to start.
The goal has never been to recreate someone else’s wedding. It’s to create one that feels like yours.
